What is the number one thing you want to accomplish in 2018? Take a moment and write that down, but before you do that, make sure it’s the one goal that will benefit you the most. The number one goal that will give you the best return on your investment of the time and energy it’s going to take to accomplish it. I only want you to concentrate on accomplishing just one thing. That’s it – just one.
Once you’ve decided on the one thing you want to accomplish, I want you to list all the things you’ll need to do to make it happen. Wishing and hoping won’t make it so, accomplishing your number one goal is a planned event. Most people fail at accomplishing their goals because they fail to put a plan together to make it happen. Just like that old saying goes – “Fail to plan – plan to fail”. After you’ve written down all the steps you’ll need to take to accomplish your goal, I want you to keep one thing in mind. You are going to fall down, take some missteps, veer off track, and come up against a number of obstacles that you will have to manoeuvre around. But that’s ok – anybody who has ever accomplished anything worthwhile has challenges. If your number one goal for 2018 doesn’t scare you – then you didn’t set a big enough one. Anyone can set an easy goal. If you want to accomplish big things – then you need to start thinking bigger.
The roadmap to accomplish your number one goal for 2018 will be your daily “to-do” list. Your “to-do” list is your plan broken down into small actionable steps. I want you to go to bed each night and wake up every morning knowing what small step you’ll need to take that day to get closer to accomplishing your goal. Celebrate your victories – no matter how small – because they will help motivate you. They will keep you focused on the task at hand – instead of drifting off and spending your valuable time and energy on something that won’t help you. The only thing that should matter is you working your plan. Don’t deviate from your plan, focus on accomplishing one thing at a time. Accomplish the first thing on your list before you move on to the next item. It doesn’t matter if it takes you more than a day, week, or month to complete a task; what matters is you’re working your plan. You have three hundred sixty-five chances to accomplish your number one goal and make 2018 your best year yet. Keep your eye on the prize and make everyday count in some small way. Believe in yourself. You can do this. You have three hundred – sixty-five – chances to get it right.
